Fybromyalgia & Chronic Pain Samples

Product Description

Fibromyalgia and Chronic Pain is a therapeutic brainwave entrainment product from Deep Mind. The intention behind developing this audio CD is to assist people suffering with fibromyalgia and other forms of chronic pain to reduce their experience of pain, improve mental clarity and mood, and improve their overall quality of life.

Where once pain management was considered the domain of medicine and perhaps physiotherapy, other complementary treatments for pain are being explored by many people experiencing chronic pain conditions. These, so called “alterative” treatments, include traditional acupuncture, electroacupuncture, transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation, transcranial magnetic stimulation, hypnosis, audio-visual brainwave entrainment, and various meditation practices.

The value of meditation for pain management is undisputed. For instance, a very successful pain treatment program that has been well researched stems from the work of Jon-Kabat-Zinn at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center and is based on mindfulness meditation.

This audio CD promotes states of deep relaxation and deep meditative awareness. In addition, it provides auditory entrainment pulses that promote release of restorative and healing hormones that sooth and heal people in pain.

This CD is not intended as a replacement for medical treatments for fibromyalgia or chronic pain but as a supplementary aid for people who wish to explore the immense value relaxation and meditative techniques have on quality of life. If you are suffering from chronic pain in any form, we hope that listening to this CD on a regular basis becomes a useful part of your pain management treatment plan.

Nature, causes, and incidence of fibromyalgia and chronic pain

Fibromyalgia or Fibromyalgia Syndrome (FMS), as it is often referred to, is literally defined as muscle and connective tissue pain. It is characterised by chronic and widespread pain and an amplified painful response to tactile pressure or, in other words, tenderness. Additional symptoms commonly include general fatigue, insomnia, reduction in thought clarity often referred to as “brain fog,” and gastrointestinal complaints.

Fibromyalgia can be a severely debilitating condition affecting 2 to 4% of the population and taking several years to resolve. It is nine times more common in females than males. There remains disagreement among the medical community as to the cause of fibromyalgia and the biological processes behind the myriad symptoms. There is no laboratory, radiographic, or other diagnostic test that can be used to confirm the diagnosis although these can be used to exclude other possible causes of symptoms.

In the medical literature, chronic pain is referred to as pain that has been endured for 6 months or more. There are a variety of medical causes for chronic pain including irritable bowel syndrome, migraine headaches, and osteoarthritis. Chronic pain is also often the result of damage to some part of the peripheral nervous system and includes back and shoulder pain that involve damage to vertebrae, spinal discs, or nerves traversing from the spinal column. Chronic pain conditions are more common in women than men, although women are more likely to report pain then men.

Effective management of fibromyalgia and chronic pain commences with a correct diagnosis from a health practitioner followed by an individual management plan that usually includes education, lifestyle changes, exercise, medication, and further interventions that target pain, sleep quality, and stress management.

Regardless of the source and type of chronic pain, there is a high comorbidity between physiological pain and psychological suffering, which is especially evident in mental health conditions like depression and anxiety. It is often not the pain so much as the comorbid conditions that impact upon quality of life for those people who experience with chronic pain.

Disc contents

This CD comprises two 30 minute brainwave entrainment soundtracks. The pulse frequency for both soundtracks is subdelta, varying between 0.5 and 1.0 Hz. The pulse is generated by isochronic and monaural waveforms. The two soundtracks differ in terms of the relaxing ambient music played in the background, which is also embedded with entrainment pulses.

Soundtrack 1 includes soothing music that promotes deep relaxation. Soundtrack 2 includes more uplifting explorational music. Both soundtracks are designed to be nonintrusive so that they do not interfere with the entrainment pulses.

Delta brainwave frequencies are associated with deep dreamless sleep, mind-body healing, and the release of certain restorative and anti-aging hormones, including Human Growth Hormone, Melatonin, and Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), a precursor hormone for Testosterone and Oestrogen. There is a growing research base that shows that subdelta audio and visual entrainment can reduce the experience of suffering in persons diagnosed with fibromyalgia and other forms of chronic pain and additionally improve mental clarity, mood, and quality of life.

The brainwave entrainment pulses on this CD are effective when listened to through audio speakers or headphones. However, we strongly encourage you to use passive noise-isolating in-ear headphones for optimal audio reproduction of entrainment pulses. This is particularly the recommendation for this CD as the audio entrainment pulses are of a very low pitch frequency that is not rendered well by over-ear headphones or loudspeakers.
